First Medical Marijuana Cultivation Licenses Awarded by Rhode Island

As Rhode Island’s medical marijuana program takes shape, the state has awarded the first licenses for cultivation. Three licenses were approved. Once final inspection is given, they will be permitted to begin cultivating.

The three licenses are also the only ones approved to sell medical marijuana, according to Providence Journal. Medici Products & Solutions, Evergreen Gardens, and OSCC’s licenses were approved.

Four more businesses’ applications were approved. Licenses may be approved after inspections are completed and passed. The four other approved applicants are IDBP, GrowingGreen RI, Best Buds Nursery, and Dirtworx.

Applications for cultivator’s licenses will be accepted until April. Following the number of approvals granted the state will determine if there are enough cultivators working to supply the state’s marijuana needs.

Norman Birenbaum, a state marijuana regulator, said, “Based on what we have so far, I would not be surprised if we got another 13 applications in over the next two weeks.”
