Rhode Island Governor Focusing on Massachusetts’ Marijuana Initiative

Governor Gina Raimondo is watching the Massachusetts marijuana ballot measure closely. She acknowledges that the legalization of marijuana in Massachusetts would mean that Rhode Island would have to work a little faster at legalization.

Question 4 in Massachusetts would allow retail shops to open in January 2018, according to NBC News 10. Rhode Island has enough time to prepare itself and catch up to its New England neighbor.

Governor Raimondo has already made improvements to the flawed medical marijuana program. And with a regulatory framework already in place, implementing recreational marijuana legislation would be fairly easy.

Governor Raimondo appears to be proactive regarding marijuana, but remains focused on keeping Rhode Island’s children safe.
