A new poll conducted by WPRI 12 News and Roger Williams University shows that 56% of voters support legalization. Only 37% of those surveyed oppose legalization and 7% remain unsure. The survey included 416 voters in Rhode Island.

The survey was conducted between October 20 and 24 via landline and cell phone, WPRI 12 News says.  Younger voters seemed to show more support than any other age group. Of those between ages 18 and 39, 67% support legalization.

Political analyst Joe Fleming said, “We see a difference in the political parties. Democrats strongly support it, Republicans support it, Independent voters are divided on it.”

Of those between the ages of 40 and 50, 53% support marijuana legalization. Some are still concerned with youth access/use.

Fleming said, “There are still those concerned about this. Even then, they still supported it, but it’s still softer than the other age groups.”
